Getting to shoot Rivington Barn

We always love returning to shoot Rivington Hall Barn wedding photography. This 12^th century barn venue manages to effortlessly blend a rustic barn setting with hi-end luxury giving you a magical setting for a wedding.

On the day Sam and her bridal party got ready at nearby Kilhey Court Hotel. A gorgeous Victorian hotel with a large suite perfect for bridal preparations. Sam had got herself seriously organised with co-ordinated robes for the girls and of course some medicinal bubbly to ease any last-minute nerves. The bridal party consisted of Sam’s mum Christine, Chris’s mum Helen, Sam’s sister Jen who was maid of honour, then bridesmaids Hannah, Lizzie and Vicky.

Chris and his grooms party got ready at home. Cheeky beers, a wee dram of whiskey and playing FIFA featured in their preparations so they did well to make it to the wedding at all. Chris’s grooms party consisted of Chris, his dad also Chris and groomsmen Jamie, Jack, David and Stuart. The boys all looked very smart in three-piece grey suits with red ties and buttonholes.

Now there’s two of us which is always handy when it comes to photographing before the ceremony as it enabled us to be in two places at once which meant we could capture both Sam and Chris having fun their closest friends and family before the ceremony.

Vintage Lace

Sam looked gorgeous in her vintage lace detail dress with a veil. With her tousled hair and pretty makeup by (both done by the very talented Louise Hall) she looked amazing. Bridesmaids wore a lovely deep red colour that co-ordinated perfectly with the flowers (by Flowersmiths) and worked with the groomsmen’s red ties.

Wedding transport on the day was a stunning Silver Regal Landaulette wedding car hired from Limo-Scene. Its spacious interior meant we could get right inside as well to get some fantastic images.

Guests began to arrive at Rivington Barn and as it was a sunny day were enjoying drinks on their lovely terrace.

The barn itself looked amazing. It had been dressed by venue dresser ‘The Venue Stylist’ and featured beautiful drapes, flowers, fairy lights and candles. The seating was arranged to reveal a dramatic aisle for Sam and her dad to walk down.

The ceremony was lovely and personal as Sam and Chris had written and read their own vows. After the ceremony there was a drinks reception and everybody headed back outside to enjoy the gardens and the sunshine. We got a chance to take lots of fantastic images, everything from romantic portrait shots, formal group shots, relaxed documentary style images and then of course the downright silly!

Sam and Chris danced into their reception to rapturous applause which really set the tone for the wedding breakfast which was provided by Rivington Hall Barn’s in-house Salmon’s caterers. This fun and jovial atmosphere continued right through to the speeches that were made by the Dad’s and by groomsmen Jack and Dave and managed to be heartfelt, emotional and hilarious!

We must mention the cake. It was so original and elegant and looked absolutely delicious. It was made Sam and Chris’s very talented bridesmaid Hannah.

As it was a sunny day after the reception we headed back outside to make good use of the exquisite early evening light (us Lancashire wedding photographers are total geeks when it comes to banging on about natural light!) We whisked Sam and Chris out around the grounds and took some beautiful and romantic portrait images of them that are amongst our favourites of the day. Here, take a look!

Evening celebrations included a fun photobooth (everybody loves a photobooth!) a very sweet father-daughter dance, a fun first dance with party poppers before the dancefloor filled up and Sam and Chris’s guests started to pull out their best moves. These guys were up for a party and DJ Steve Lewis certainly delivered.
